How to Clean Calcium Deposits in the Shower

One of the unpleasant results of hard water in a household water system is the formation of unsightly calcium deposits on the shower head, tile and shower doors. The deposits can be difficult to clean off properly due to their hardened exterior and their tendency to adhere strongly to whatever surface they form upon. It is still possible to clean these deposits out of your shower, of course; it will simply require some elbow grease and the use of several common household ingredients. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Soak your cloth rag with white vinegar.

    • 2

Place the rag over the calcium deposit you wish to remove from the shower. If the calcium deposit is on a vertical surface, just pour the vinegar over the calcium and allow it to soak in, or saturate a paper towel with the vinegar and stick it to the surface. If the calcium is in or on the shower head, fill a small plastic baggy with white vinegar and tape or rubber-band it over the shower head.

    • 3

Leave the rag or baggy in place for an hour. The vinegar will soak into the calcium and loosen the deposits from the tile or fixture.

    • 4

Scrub the calcium away with your scrubber brush.
