1
Match the metal of the wedding band to that of the engagement ring. For example, a yellow gold engagement ring denotes a yellow gold band. A platinum engagement ring calls for a platinum band.
-
2
Coordinate the stones of the two rings. For consistency, if you want stones on the wedding band you should consider the cut and style of the stones on the engagement ring. For example, if there is a diamond on the engagement ring, you may want round cut diamonds on the band. If your engagement ring has baguettes on it you may want baguettes on the wedding band as well.

3
Consider the shape and size of the engagement ring. Depending on how large a stone the engagement ring has, and the shape of the stone, you may need a slightly curved wedding band to accommodate the engagement ring. The rings should line up together in a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing manner.
-
4
Decide how you prefer to wear the rings together. If the spinning of the rings or the gap between them bothers you, you may want to consider having the rings soldered or fused together permanently.
-
5
Wear the engagement ring and the wedding band together to make sure the wedding band does not overwhelm and clash with the engagement ring. View the two rings from a variety of angles to make sure all your choices complement each other and form an overall compatible ring.
