An accordion is a portable, box-shaped wind instrument with a small keyboard and metal reeds that sound as air is forced past them. An accordion player operates the pleated bellows on the instrument. Unfortunately, accordion bellows suffer from wear and tear and must be replaced or repaired.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the small brush to clean the dust from the leaky area. Cut a piece of thin cardboard. Make sure the piece is large enough to cover the hole or crack in the bellow. Usually a 1/2 inch piece of cardboard works.

    • 2

Drop a small amount of glue on one side of the patch. Place the patch over the leak and compress the bellows so that the patch is held in place. Put a small piece of wax paper over the patch so that the glue doesn't drip. Let the glue dry for an hour and then cut a strip of bellows tape. The tape should be 1/2 inch.

    • 3

Smear a small coat of glue on a single side of the bellows tape. Place the tape over the patch and put wax paper on the tape and compress the bellows. Leave the instrument alone and let it set and dry for at least two hours. Test the dried patch afterwards by withdrawing and expanding the bellows.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may use regular white glue to put on bellows tape.

  • Do not use cyanoacrylic glue for repair; you may damage the instrument. Cyanoacrylic glue is commonly referred to as "crazy glue."
