How to Attach Marabou Fur to a Pillow

Marabou fur typically comes wrapped around a central string in the shape of a boa, and is not actually fur, but rather soft, downy feathers. The marabou can be difficult to sew on because the inner tube is difficult to attach without flattening the fur. The best way to attach marabou fur to pillows is to hand-sew it in the desired location. Use clear thread or thread that matches the color of the marabou to hide the joint between the the marabou and the pillow.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the marabou to the desired length. Add about 1 or 2 more inches than you think you will need. The marabou fur may gather more than you think, and it is easier to cut off extra than to add a second piece.

    • 2

Pin the marabou fur to the pillow with straight pins.

    • 3

Sew the fur to the pillow using an overhand stitch. Place the needle in the pillow fabric, to one side of the fur. Pull the thread under the fur and the pillow fabric, and then up and out of the pillow fabric on the other side of the fur. Loop the thread around the top of the fur and enter the pillow again from the original side. Repeat this process until the fur is sewn to the pillow.

Fluff the fur around the seam line to hide the threads. Pull some of the fur out from under the threads to disguise the seam line even more.
