How to Make Oven Baked Clay Jewelry
Polymer clay jewelry can so closely resemble more expensive jewelry that no one will know the difference. Blend and marble two or more colors together, or layer colors for a candy-like effect. The versatility of polymer clay means you can take your time getting just the effect you prefer since the clay won't dry out quickly, and it's specially manufactured to fire at low temperatures so it's curable in a home oven.
Things You'll Need
- Polymer clay
- Toothpick or needle
- Baking tray
- Oven
- Elastic or fishing line

1
Break off a small piece of clay, about the size of a pea, and mold it in your hands to condition it until it is soft and pliable. Roll the clay into a ball between your palms.
-
2
Push a toothpick, or a tapestry needle, through the clay ball to make a hole running right through the center.

3
Make as many beads as you need for your jewelry. Make beads in different shapes by pressing the sides of the balls to form cubes or triangles, or press the balls flat to make washer-type beads.
-
4
Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Lay the beads on a baking tray then bake them for 30 minutes. Take them out of the oven and set them aside to cool.
-
5
String the beads onto lengths of elastic or invisible fishing line to make jewelry, then tie the ends in a knot, drawing the beads together to finish.

Tips & Warnings
Domestic ovens don't always have the most exact temperature settings. Follow the instructions on the package of the clay you are using, and experiment with your oven temperatures if you don't get perfect results the first time.
