Unplug the Hotpoint refrigerator prior to cleaning and remove items from the refrigerator shelves and bins. Store food items in a cooler or another refrigerator if easily perishable.

Combine 1 tablespoon. baking soda with 1 quart lukewarm water. Dip a soft cleaning sponge into the cleaning mixture and use the sponge to clean the walls and surfaces of the refrigerator.

Wipe the interior with a clean, damp cloth and then follow with a dry cloth to remove excess moisture.

Place food items back into the refrigerator.

Clean the door gasket with a damp cloth and then dry before applying a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the gasket. This helps the gasket keep shape.

Dip a clean cloth into warm, soapy water and use the cloth to wipe down the refrigerator exterior, including the door handles and trim.

Turn off the temperature controls in the refrigerator compartment and then use a soft brush to reach under and clean under the front of the refrigerator.

Plug the refrigerator back into the power source and turn the temperature controls to the previous setting.
