How to Knit a Little Cat Blanket
Knitters who love their cats and want to keep them warm can knit them their very own small blanket. Blankets are ideal for elderly or sick cats who have trouble keeping weight on. Fold the blanket and put it on a shelf to make a soft cat bed or cover your cat while it sleeps. Dishcloth cotton is inexpensive, soft and machine washable. Try out a new stitch pattern on your little cat blanket before using it for a larger piece. After all, your cat won't care what its blanket looks like, only that it's soft and warm.

1
Cast on 70 stitches, or a few more or less if your stitch pattern calls for a different multiple.
-
2
Knit flat in any stitch pattern you like until the blanket measures 24 inches long.

-
3
Bind off all stitches, cut the yarn coming from the skein and use a darning needle to weave in the tail.
-
4
Crochet or knit a border around the blanket if desired, especially if you have an extra-large cat. Two ways to create a border are to single- or double-crochet all the way around or to pick up one on a circular needle for every stitch and knit as many rows as you want. If you choose to pick up stitches, work an extra three stitches into every corner stitch to help keep the corners square.

5
Machine-wash and dry the blanket to remove any machine oils that might irritate your cat's sensitive skin.
