The Proper Way to Write an Engagement Invite thumbnail
The engagement invite must give all necessary information to your guests.

Writing an invite for your engagement does not just entail mentioning the time and place of your celebration. As the invite is the only information your friends and relatives get regarding your engagement, it must clarify all issues, from the exact location of the event, to the dress code and the type of the celebration. You can use your creativity to write original invites that deviate from the ordinary formal wording. However, you must ensure the invites as suitable for the event, which is an engagement and not an ordinary party. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Mention the engagement in the first or second sentence of the invite. This way, recipients learn instantly what this event they are invited to is about.

    • 2

Open the invite with a polite request, asking the guests to attend the event. Examples of such requests are "You are cordially invited to attend the engagement party of..." or "Please join us to celebrate the engagement of..." Do not write straightforward demands, such as "Join us..." or "Come to celebrate..."

    • 3

Write the surname of the parents if the party is hosted by them. You can say for example: "Mr. and Mrs. Cartwright together with Mr. and Mrs. Brown request the pleasure of your company at the engagement of..."

    • 4

Include the venue of the wedding, along with the date and time of the event. Be specific about the time and date -- although you don't have to refer to the year -- and omit the address of the venue only if you are certain the guests are familiar with it.

    • 5

Write the initials R.S.V.P., standing for "repondez s'il vous plait" in French or "please respond" in English at the end of the invite, followed by a name, telephone number and email address. This way, guests will know whom to contact to confirm their attendance.

    • 6

Write the invite -- apart from location and the R.S.V.P. -- in a single sentence, without putting a period at the end of it. Mention the location directly below the sentence and leave a space before entering the R.S.V.P. Ensure every line on the invitation comprises five words at the most.
