How to Finish the Top & Bottom of Hairpin Lace
Hairpin lace, a Victorian time-period technique, is a type of crochet stitch that uses a specially designed loom to create strips of crochet. The strips have loops on both sides. The loops are used to connect the strips together to create solid pieces of fabric. The loops also create the outside edge for the hairpin lace item. The easiest edge cuts the center of each loop to create a fringe. Create a solid edge with the same crochet hook used to make the hairpin lace strip.

Tie a slipknot approximately 4 inches from the end of the yarn. Place the slipknot over the end of the crochet hook.

Insert the crochet hook through the next hairpin lace loop. Position the yarn so it is behind the loops. Single crochet around the hairpin lace loop. Repeat the process across the entire row.

Cut the yarn approximately 4 inches from the last single crochet stitch. Pull the end of the yarn through the loop on the shaft of the crochet hook. Pull the end firmly to form a knot.
