How to Make a Space Helmet Prop
Big-budget movie companies have millions of dollars at their disposal for engineering, developing and creating lifelike props. This is funding the average person does not have. If you are in need of a prop of some sort, such as a space helmet, you can build it from home using many different objects you might already have.
Things You'll Need
- 10-qt. metal bucket
- Marker/pencil
- Skil saw/Dremel
- Measuring tape
- Plexiglas
- Duct tape
Instructions
-
-
1
Secure the metal bucket onto a flat surface using clamps.
-
2
Use a marker or pencil to make a mark where you want to cut the face shield out of the metal bucket.

-
3
Use a Skil saw or Dremel to cut the face shield out of the metal bucket. Go slowly and carefully. Wear protective eye wear and gloves to protect yourself.
-
4
Measure the face opening of the space helmet, and measure out a piece of Plexiglass about one inch larger on all sides.
-
5
Insert the Plexiglass inside of the helmet and position it into place. Place duct tape on all sides of the Plexiglass to secure it to the inside of the helmet. You now have a rudimentary space helmet.

Tips & Warnings
Paint stripes down the center of the helmet, and add a "NASA" sticker to make it look even more like a true space helmet.
Small details like using official NASA blue and red paint makes a prop feel more like it should be on a theater, movie, TV or commercial set.
Finish off the space helmet by hot-gluing an old radio antenna to the top or the rear of the helmet.
