DIY Felt Tree
When Christmas is in the air, you want your home decor to reflect your holiday cheer. Though decorations are plentiful at department stores and boutiques, save some money this year by making your own ornaments at home. In just an afternoon you can make a fancy felt tree to dress up a mantle or a side table. Make a few felt trees and slip them over wine bottles for a crafty Christmas gifts. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Pencil
- Paper
- Scissors
- 1/2 yard green felt
- Fabric chalk
- Pins
- Sewing machine
- Rhinestones
- Fabric glue

Draw a Christmas tree shape on a piece of paper as large as you would like your felt tree to be. If you are going to use the tree as a wine cover, it will need to be as tall as a bottle of wine and slightly wider. To draw the shape of a Christmas tree, you can draw three triangles stacked on top of each other with the top points overlapping. The top triangle should be the smallest, the middle one slightly larger, and the bottom one larger still. Look at a cartoon drawing of a Christmas tree to get an idea of what you want yours to look like.

Cut out the paper template that you just created. Spread out the felt on a flat surface. Trace the template onto the felt. Cut the tree shape out of the felt.

Trace the template onto a second piece of felt. Cut it out.

Line up the two felt trees so all the edges are flush. Pin the felt together.

Sew the sides of the tree together, as close as you can to the edge of the felt. Leave the bottom of the tree open.

Glue rhinestones on both sides of the tree to resemble Christmas tree decorations.

Tips & Warnings
You can stuff the tree with fiberfill and sew up the bottom edge for a felt tree pillow.
