How to Make a Thread Spool Loom
French knitting, also known as corking, often is learned before more complex crafts such as knitting and crocheting. The loom needed for this is known by different names, including a corker, a knitting nancy and a bizzy lizzy. The loom is readily available at craft and yarn stores, but you can make one from a used wooden thread spool and four tiny nails. The loom produces thin tubes of knitting, which can be made into a variety of knitted items.

1
Mark one end of the wooden spool with four dots equidistant apart in a square pattern. Center the hole in the spool in the middle of the dots.
-
2
Hammer a size 4d nail into each of the four dots you marked. Leave 1/2 inch of each nail protruding.

3
Rub the spool lightly with sandpaper and wipe off any dust residue.
-
4
Varnish the spool and allow it to dry completely. This will protect it from finger marks. If desired, decorate the spool with paints, decoupage or colored pens, prior to varnishing.
