How to Make a Photographic Portfolio
A photographic portfolio can be thought of as a visual resume for photographers. A well-constructed portfolio should contain examples of only the best work by a photographer and include examples of the type of work he is capable of shooting. A studio photographer may have a portfolio that contains portraits, still life, product shots, food shots, glamour and fashion shots. A photojournalist, however, would have images showing his ability to cover news, sports, entertainment, features and portraits. A thoughtful portfolio can aid in landing a full-time job or assignment.

1
Identify the images you want to review for possible inclusion in your portfolio. A portfolio should not have more than 20 pictures and should only contain the best of your work.
-
2
Lay all the images face up on a table. Sort the pictures into different subject matters. Include a mix of vertical, horizontal, color, black and white and sepia images, if applicable.
-
-
3
Arrange the selected photos in a sequence. Start with your strongest picture, and have a strong picture to finish with. Most people will remember what they see first and last; by placing your strongest work in these two positions, you increase the probability that your work will be remembered.
-
4
Insert your selected images into a portfolio binder. You may choose to place a date on the binder as a reminder of when it was last reviewed.
