How Do I Scale Walls in "Pokemon HeartGold"?
In "Pokemon HeartGold," the Hidden Machine Rock Climb lets you scale walls so you can access new areas where extra items and Pokemon can be found. In addition, Rock Climb is an effective attack that can be used in Pokemon battles to damage opponents and potentially leave them confused.

Obtain all 16 gym badges by defeating the 16 gym leaders in the Kanto and Johto regions. The final gym badge will be given to you by Blue at the Viridian City gym.

Exit the Viridian City gym after receiving the final badge. Once you leave, you'll get a call from Professor Oak, who tells you to stop by his lab in Pallet town so you can pick up a present he forgot to give you.

Go to Pallet Town and talk to Professor Oak in his lab to receive Hidden Machine (HM) 08, which contains the move Rock Climb.

Teach Rock Climb to one of your Pokemon. To find out if one your Pokemon is capable of learning the move, boot up the HM and select the option "Teach Rock Climb to one of your Pokemon." If any of the Pokemon in your party are capable of learning it, it will say "Able" below their name.

Scale walls using Rock Climb. As long as a Pokemon who has learned Rock Climb is in your party, you will be able to scale certain walls by approaching them and pressing the "A" button.

Only walls that have steps carved into them can be scaled using Rock Climb.
