How to Score in Duplicate Bridge

Duplicate bridge represents a true test of skill for bridge players. In this game type, teams will play the same exact hands as other teams throughout the course of a game. After you play a round, you rotate to another table. All teams going North and South will play the exact same hands. The same holds true for teams going East and West. Scoring during duplicate bridge has standardized rules.

Instructions

    • 1

Declare your contracts. Write down whether your opponents chose to double your bid. Record who holds vulnerability. These factors all weigh into score.

    • 2

Play your round. Keep score at the end of each round.

    • 3

Tabulate your score. You earn 40 points for the first non-trump trick. Each subsequent trick earns you 30 points. Spade and heart tricks earn you 30 points while club and diamond tricks earn 20 points. The main trick values do not change club to club.

    • 4

Tabulate your customized scoring based upon the scoring system in your club. This includes the bonuses for vulnerable grand slams, non-vulnerable grand slams, games, part scores, doubled contracts and re-doubled contracts. These figures vary based upon the club you play duplicate bridge at.
