A little, white bib is a nice compliment to a christening gown.

Finding the perfect wedding gown can be almost as important as the big day itself. Unless you plan to hand down your dress to the next generation, there are many ways to transform your wedding gown into a memorable keepsake. A wedding dress can be cut up and made into a quilt to adorn the bridal bed, or made into a baptism or first communion dress or smaller items like handkerchiefs and baby bibs.

Instructions

    • 1

Print a copy of a bib pattern. Enlarge it to the size you require.

    • 2

Choose the area of your dress you want to turn into the baptismal bib. Arrange the dress so you have two pieces of fabric laying flat on top of each other. Pin the pattern to both layers of fabric and cut out the bib.

    • 3

Unpin the pattern from the gown fabric and pin it to a piece of cotton batting. Cut out the bib pattern from the batting.

    • 4

Pin the batting to the wrong side of one piece of gown fabric. Sew the batting to this piece using the pressure foot as a guide.

    • 5

Lay the batting backed piece of bib on your work surface, batting side down. Pin the other bib shaped piece of wedding dress fabric to this piece. Leave a space on the lower edge for turning the bib right side out.

    • 6

Start at one side of the opening and stitch around the bib to the other side of the opening. Use the pressure foot as a guide.

    • 7

Turn the bib right side out. The raw edges of the opening will automatically turn to the inside. Cover the bib with a pressing cloth and iron flat.

    • 8

Topstitch around the edge of the bib using the pressure foot as a guide.

    • 9

Overlap the two neck edges of the bib and pin a hook fastener on one side and the loop fastener on the other. Stitch the fasteners in place.
