How to Make Double Paper Butterflies

Create handmade paper butterflies using colorful solid or patterned scrapbook paper. These lovable butterflies can be made for special occasions, to decorate a girl’s room or hang outdoors from your patio for inexpensive outdoor decor. If you want your butterflies to have color on both sides but don't have double-sided colorful paper, you can create double paper butterflies using two separate types of paper for interesting and creative butterfly crafts.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a template using cardstock by drawing a half-butterfly against one edge of the cardstock and cutting it out. Because you need two butterflies that are identical, the template makes this possible.

    • 2

Choose which paper will be the front of the butterfly and fold it in half with the patterned side on the inside of the fold. Trace your butterfly template onto the folded edge of the paper and cut it out.

    • 3

Fold your second piece of paper in half to create the back of the butterfly with the patterned side of paper on the outside of the fold. Place your template on the folded edge of the paper to trace it and cut it out. Attach the butterflies together with glue so that there's a colored or patterned side visible on both the front and back of the patterned papers.
