How to Pass a Moving Tree in Pokemon
In "Pokemon Gold" and "Silver," the moving tree that blocks Route 36 is actually a Pokemon called Sudowoodo. Sudowoodo is a pure Rock-type Pokemon that can be removed only by spraying it with water. Once you remove Sudowoodo, you can continue on the path to Ecruteak City to get the next badge in the game.

Fight the gym leader Whitney in Goldenrod City to obtain the Plainbadge.

Go to the flower shop, which is located in the northeastern part of Goldenrod City.

Talk to the woman in the shop. When she is finished talking, she will give you a squirt bottle.

Head north and then east of Goldenrod, toward Route 36. Squirt the moving tree with the squirt bottle. The tree, which is really Sudowoodo, will become angry and attack you. You can catch it, fight it or run away from it.

Tips & Warnings
Save your game before you spray Sudowoodo with water so that you have another chance of catching it in case you fail. This is the only instance in the game in which it will appear.
