How to Make a Kid's Fireman Dress-Up Costume
Many little boys and girls dream of being a hero. With a fireman dress-up costume, children can look the part of some of the bravest men and women in the country. Rather than spending lots of money by purchasing an expensive outfit at a costume shop, create a kid's fireman dress-up costume yourself. With a little time and creativity, the children can easily dress up and live out childhood fantasies while honoring everyday heroes.

1
Transform an ordinary black jacked or long sleeved button-up shirt into a fireman's uniform. Wrap a horizontal line of silver tape around the chest of the jacket and another about four inches from the bottom of the jacket. Add two bands of silver tape on both sleeves, so that each band matches up approximately to the silver lines on the body of the jacket. Surround each line of silver tape with two strips of yellow tape, one on each side of the silver tape.

2
Wrap a line of silver tape around the bottom of each pant leg, about six inches from the bottom. Stick a line of yellow tape above the silver line, as well as another below.

3
Create a badge. Using a local fire department logo as a reference, draw a badge onto a piece of paper. Cut it out and attach it to the top left of the jacket.
-
4
Attach iron-on patches to decorate the sleeves. Add an American flag to the side of the right upper arm. On the other arm, iron on numbers to look like the department or battalion numbers.
-
5
Add additional lettering to the back. Use white 3-inch letters to write the child's name across the back of the jacket.
-
6
Complete the outfit with a pair of black boots and a firefighter helmet.
