DIY Bean Pillow

DIY Bean Pillow thumbnail
Make your own relaxation pillow using household supplies.

When you are trying to relax you head, neck and eye muscles, using an eye pillow can help promote relaxation. Eye pillows are often filled with natural, hard objects, such as dried beans, which can be heated in a microwave to create a warming pillow that will further promote relaxation of the muscles in your face. Instead of buying a premade bean-filled eye pillow, create your own using a few basic materials that can be found at any arts and crafts store.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a rectangle from silk fabric using scissors to measure 8 inches wide, 12 inches long.

    • 2

Fold the fabric in half widthwise, and pin around the edges using straight pins. Leave a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

    • 3

Sew around the pinned edges using a needle and thread, leaving 2 inches unsewn. Remove the straight pins.

    • 4

Turn the sewn form right side out through the unsewn section.

    • 5

Insert a funnel into the opening of the sewn pillow, and fill the pillow halfway full with dried beans through the funnel. Remove the funnel.

    • 6

Turn the edges of the unsewn section in by 1/4 inch, and sew the opening closed with a needle and thread. Cut off any excess thread before using the bean eye pillow.
