How to Calculate the Ruffle Lengths on a Pillow

Make your own pillows to match the ones you have.

If you have a pillow on your couch or chair with a ruffled trim, then you may be wondering how you can calculate the length of the ruffle trim without actually having to take it off the pillow if you would like to make a similar pillow. A rough estimate of the length of ruffle trim is double the actual length of the sides. Calculate this measurement using a common English ruler or tape measure you have at home.

• English ruler
• Tape measure

Instructions

1. Place the pillow with the ruffled edging on a flat table. Ask a helper to hold the pillow in place.

2. Hold the end of the English ruler or the tape measure at one of the corners of the pillow and measure the length of one of the sides.

3. Type that number into the calculator. For example, if one of the sides is 12 inches, then type "12" into the calculator. Double the measurement to arrive at the result of 24. Multiply 24 by 4 to get the total length of the ruffle edging. In this example, this measurement equals 96 inches. This measurement takes into account the added material needed to create the ruffles.
