How to Turn Off Dish Satellite Optical Sound
Dish Network receivers come in three basic models: standard-definition, high-definition and digital video recorder. The standard model only supports composite video and analog sound, but the HD and DVR models all support HD and digital audio. To connect to an external speaker system, the HD and DVR receivers use a digital audio optical connection for an external sound system. You must be tuned to a channel that provides digital audio for the signal to appear. When not in use, you can turn the optical sound off with the remote control.
