Classic Medusa has snakes for hair.

A Medusa mask for a theater production should be easily identifiable and visible from every seat in the theater. Because of the necessity for a dramatic appearance of the mask, an entire face mask is one of the most suitable bases to use for Medusa’s head. Depending on the production, you can paint the mask a variety of colors, from stone to green to mostly human-like in appearance. Make sure the person playing Medusa can see out of the mask before making any changes to the mask.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the snakes and rubber mask with spray primer to eliminate any of the existing features and colors on the mask. Allow the paint to dry.

    • 2

Place the mask onto a wig form and arrange the snakes on top of the head. Glue the snakes in place with the epoxy glue. Allow the glue to dry 24 hours.

    • 3

Paint the desired colors and facial features onto the mask while the head is still on the wig form. Allow the paint to dry two hours.

    • 4

Coat the entire mask, snakes and all, with clear acrylic sealer to protect the paint and prevent it from cracking or peeling. Allow the mask to dry for 24 hours.
