How to Make a Cool Necklace Out of a Shoestring
Shoestrings make the perfect base for a cool necklace. Shoestrings are durable, inexpensive, readily available and come in tons of fun colors. Making a shoestring necklace is a great project for kids. You can make an infinite number of different necklaces using shoestrings, but making a shoestring necklace using washers adds an unexpectedly elegant twist. Use black shoestrings for a sophisticated effect or try neon shoestrings for a cool aesthetic.

1
Tie the ends of two pieces of shoestring together. Now you should have one long string.
-
2
Snip off the excess shoestring where you tied the knot.
-
-
3
Tape down one end of the shoestring to a table. This will prevent the washers from slipping off the other end when you string them on.
-
4
Collect metal washers of various sizes, or use just one size washer for a simpler look. You can buy washers at any hardware store.
-
5
Thread the shoestring through the hole in the middle of the washers. Keep adding washers to your necklace until you are satisfied with how it looks.
-
6
Untape the taped end of the shoestring. Keep it between your fingers to prevent the washers from falling off.
-
7
Knot the two ends of the shoestring together to form a circle. Slip the necklace over your head or give it to a friend as a gift.
