A wood spool could make a perfect top hat.

A variety of different craft projects may need creative little embellishments as finishing touches. For example, if you make a small doll or snowman out of miscellaneous materials, finish the project by making a mini top hat with a spool of thread. Use an old-fashioned wood spool for creative crafting projects. Old-fashioned spools often were wood instead of plastic, making them ideal for projects.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the thread from the spool, if necessary.

    • 2

Center the wood circle on one end of the wood spool and glue it in this spot with the wood glue. Allow the glue to dry completely before proceeding. This will be the brim of the hat.

    • 3

Paint the wood spool and wood circle with the black acrylic paint, covering the entire wood surface evenly with the black paint. Allow the paint to dry completely.

    • 4

Apply a second coat of black paint to the wood surfaces.

    • 5

Add some sort of holiday or floral embellishment around the brim of the hat, if you desire, such as winter holly or a daisy.
