Instructions

  1. Faux Gift

    • 1

Drill a ¼-inch hole into one side of a standard glass block, using a diamond-tipped hole-saw drill bit. Keep the hole centered.

    • 2

Wipe off the glass block with a clean, dry cloth to remove dust.

    • 3

Stuff the lights into the hole. Use only male lights without a female end.

    • 4

Wrap the box in a white sheer fabric, as you would a gift. Use hot glue to attach the fabric.

    • 5

Lay the glass block onto its back and tie a 1½ -inch wide ribbon around the centerpiece. Be sure to use ribbon that coordinates with the bride’s wedding colors.

    • 6

Add bow on top. Plug in the lights, and you have a lighted centerpiece that resembles a wrapped gift.

    Vase of Flowers

    • 7

Place your crafter’s glass block on the table so that the long rectangular opening faces up.

    • 8

Spray the block with glass paint in a color that complements the bride’s wedding colors. Allow the paint to dry.

    • 9

Apply a clear coat, acrylic spray to the block. Allow it to dry.

    • 10

Fill the block with real or silk flowers that coordinate with the bride’s color theme.

    Glass Shadow Box

    • 11

Place your glass block on the table so that it stands upright, with the wide rectangular opening facing up.

    • 12

Insert pebbles, sands, glass rocks, faux green grass, silk flower petals or anything that complements the wedding theme and that can be used as a base for your block. For example, pebbles or sand will work for a seaside-wedding block or silk red and orange leaves for an autumn wedding.

    • 13

Place a few larger, wedding-themed items in the block, gluing them in place. Some examples would be one or two small, colorful starfish or shells for a seaside wedding or a large pink Gerbera daisy for an outdoor summer wedding.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use battery-operated LED, or light-emitting diode, lights instead of plug-ins for centerpieces that will not be placed near an outlet.

  • Glass blocks can be purchased at your local craft or hardware store, depending on the type you need.

  • You can use a picture of the bride-and-groom-to-be for your shadow box.
