The arcs of a spider web face away from the center of the web.

Drawing spider webs on a cake can create a creepy effect for Halloween or surprise an avid Spider Man fan on his birthday. If there are pictures or other imagery on the cake, look for blank spots around the imagery to draw spider webs. You can also enlist the services of a professional bakery, which can print spider web photos onto a very thin film of frosting. The film is then placed on the cake. You must provide the photographs for this service. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remove one end of the cake decorating pump, and spoon a few tablespoons of black cake frosting into the tube. Replace the end. Decide where you want to draw your spider web on the cake.

    • 2

Apply pressure to the trigger of the cake decorating pump. Draw one vertical black line. Add a horizontal black line intersecting the vertical line at its center. Add two diagonal lines running through the center of the original two lines. The diagonal lines should be longer than the original lines.

    • 3

Connect the lines you have drawn by adding inverted arcs. The arcs should not open up toward the center of the lines you have drawn but away from them. Arcs should be spaced evenly. Continue adding arcs until you reach the ends of the horizontal and vertical lines you drew in Step 2.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you wish to have spider webs printed onto a frosting sheet, call several local bakeries and ask if they offer that service. Indicate how large you would like the image to be.

  • Some bakery websites allow you to upload an image. The site then mails you an edible sticker version of your image to apply to your cake.

  • Ensure that the cake decorating tube is thoroughly dry. If there's water in it, it may affect the consistency of the frosting.
