How to Clean Pomade Out of Your Hair thumbnail
Washing out pomade is a bit trickier than washing out other hair products.

Pomade gives hair a reliable yet malleable hold without leaving it hard or crispy. Unfortunately, pomade clings to hair and can be difficult to wash out with even the strongest shampoos. Using olive oil to break down the pomade and dish soap to wash it away, however, is an effective method of washing out pomade. When using pomade, it is always best to start with a small amount and then add a little more at a time until you achieve your desired look. That procedure minimizes excess pomade buildup and makes washing pomade out of your hair much less of a chore. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Apply 2 tablespoons of olive oil to your dry hair. Massage it into your hair thoroughly. The oil helps to break down the pomade.

    • 2

Lather your hair using a liberal amount of grease-cutting dish soap and just enough water to form a small amount of foam. Add more water to your hair gradually, but only enough to maintain a good lather. Rinse your hair thoroughly with hot water.

    • 3

Clean your hair with a clarifying shampoo, and rinse out the shampoo. Use a hair conditioner according to its directions to restore essential oils lost while washing out the pomade.
