Not all snowmen are made of snow.

Of all the seasons, winter has without a doubt the most iconic imagery. Santa, Rudolf, Frosty, stockings, Christmas trees, Menorahs -- the list goes on and on. So while it may not be the best time to play outside, there are plenty of fun and seasonal crafts to be made in the colder months of the year. With just a few simple materials you can make a classic snowman project that is fun and age appropriate for preschoolers.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the paper towel tube one-third of the way from the top.

    • 2

Paint the smaller piece of the tube black, using your paint and paintbrush. This will serve as your snowman hat.

    • 3

Paint the larger piece of the tube white, using your paint and paintbrush. This will serve as the body and head of the snowman.

    • 4

Cut a circle of black construction paper slightly wider than the width of the paper towel tube.

    • 5

Glue the black construction paper circle to the bottom of the black one-third of the tube. Now your snowman has a fine stove top hat.

    • 6

Glue the hat onto the snowman's body.

    • 7

Cut three small circles in your black construction paper. Now you have buttons for the snowman.

    • 8

Glue the buttons on your snowman, each slightly above the other as on a coat.

    • 9

Paint two eyes and a happy mouth on your snowman's face using your paintbrush and paint.

    • 10

Cut a small triangle of orange construction paper for your snowman's nose.

    • 11

Glue the orange triangle between the eyes and mouth, and you have a complete snowman.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can add a scarf to your snowman by using red yarn, wrapped around underneath the snowman's smile.

  • If you want to get more advanced, you can cut the tube into three uneven pieces and use these as you would the three "snowballs" that make up a traditional snowman. By having a long, medium, and short piece of tubing, you can create the tapered shape of a snowman with the tube.
