1
Wash your face each morning with a gentle cleanser. One of the primary culprits in faded or smeared eyeliner is excess oil — you can limit this effect by keeping your face clean.
-
2
Apply a thin layer of makeup primer to your eyelids before using the eyeliner. Primer gives the eyeliner something to stick to beyond your eyelids and helps mitigate the effects of oil.

3
Dust a light coat of powder eye shadow or concealer onto your eyelids before applying eyeliner. This works similar to the makeup primer by providing the eyeliner another surface to cling to.
-
4
Apply only thin layers of eyeliner, as a thick application is much more likely to smudge.
-
5
Spray your face with a light mist of makeup finishing spray to help lock the eyeliner in place.
-
6
Avoid rubbing your eyes or touching your face excessively, as this is one of the most common causes of eyeliner smearing and fading.
