How to Make a Window Curtain Rod Cover
Some views are too lovely to hide behind curtains. If you have curtains that are not designed to be closed, cover the rod with matching fabric to tie the two sides of the window treatment together. A rod cover is also a good way to cover a curtain rod that does not match or is damaged. Usually the rod cover is made to match the curtains, but you can also make a contrasting rod cover and tie backs for a custom look. Does this Spark an idea?

Measure the diameter of the rod and the length of the portion of the rod you want to cover. Add 1 1/2 inches to the diameter and double the length measurement.

Cut a strip of fabric with these dimensions.

Lay the fabric right side down on an ironing board and make a 1/2-inch fold on each the short ends. Iron the folds in place.

Turn the fabric over and fold it in half lengthwise so the right side of the fabric is on the inside.

Sew the long sides of the strip together with a straight stitch and a standard stitch length.

Turn the resulting tube right side out and thread it onto the curtain rod.

Tips & Warnings
Rod covers look best on thick curtain rods.
Slip a pool noodle over a thin rod and cover it so the rod will have more visual impact.
