How to Decorate a Table With a Lazy Susan

Lazy Susans are available in many different styles.

Decorating a lazy Susan transforms the condiment organizer into an attractive addition to your dining room table. Since it is usually placed in the middle of the table for easy access, it can readily be made into an attractive centerpiece. Lazy Susans often have more than one tier and spin easily when rotated, thus allowing diners to grab the salt and pepper, ketchup, or other items from it without asking someone to pass them. These organizers are useful in kitchen cabinets as well.

Things You'll Need

• Doily or other type of coordinating fabric
• Centerpiece
• Decorative condiment containers and other dishes

Instructions

1. Lay a lace or crocheted doily in the center of the lazy Susan if it has only one level. Use one that is large enough to cover most of the base if possible.This adds a Victorian or country-style ambiance to the organizer. Another option is to spread out a decorative cloth napkin, a bandanna or another type of cloth that complements the decor in the dining room or kitchen.

2. Place a small centerpiece on the top and smallest level of the lazy Susan if it has more than one tier. If it only has one level, set a tall, narrow centerpiece in the middle of the base. This prevents tall condiment bottles from hiding the arrangement.

3. Position taller objects such as ketchup and syrup bottles near the center of the lazy Susan. Set smaller objects toward the outer edge. This enables everyone to easily see what is on the organizer.

4. Invest in decorative dishes that enhance the kitchen or dining room dinnerware. For instance, if you use blue willow dishes on a regular basis, collect sugar bowls, a cream container, a gravy bowl or other small dishes in the same or a similar pattern to set on the lazy Susan. This adds unity and color to this central focus on your table.

Tips & Warnings

• Browse through thrift shops and garage sales to find inexpensive syrup dispensers, decorative vinegar bottles or other washable accoutrements to decorate the lazy Susan.

• Purchase washable ketchup, mustard and other condiments containers. This allows you to serve the condiment without the manufacturer's label detracting from the look.

• Create a functional and decorative centerpiece by rolling up coordinating cloth or paper napkins and standing them up in a glass jar or another wide, clear container. This adds color to the table. Another idea is to stand silverware in the container along with the napkins.
