Make a beautiful bouquet for your beauty pageant.

Participating in a beauty pageant is exciting. Enhance your beauty pageant dress or outfit by making your own flower bouquet to go with it it. Bouquets are a beautiful accessory, and aren't difficult to make yourself. Make the bouquet a day in advance, so the flowers will be ready to go but still fresh for the pageant. Keep the bouquet in a vase of water stored in a cool place such as the refrigerator until you are ready to use it.

Instructions

  1. Before You Begin Your Bouquet

    • 1

Consider what size and style you want the bouquet to be for your beauty pageant. Your bouquet should enhance the outfit you'll be wearing, rather than compete with it. If you are wearing a simple dress, make a larger and more elaborate bouquet. If you are wearing a fancy dress, a simpler bouquet will enhance it without looking gaudy or overdone. Also consider your height. A taller woman looks best with a larger bouquet, whereas a large bouquet might overwhelm a petite woman.

    • 2

Think about the type of flowers you want to use, and the colors that would best complement your outfit. While you can contrast your flowers with your dress so that they don't blend into one another, you can also choose to match them. For example, if you are wearing a long, white dress, you could carry several stems of calla lilies, which would look very modern and striking. You can also select flowers with symbolic meaning such as lily of the valley, which symbolizes purity.

    • 3

Purchase your flowers and foliage from a florist or flower market. Foliage is an inexpensive way to fill out a bouquet and make it larger.

    Construct Your Bouquet

    • 4

Lay out your flowers on a clean work surface. Remove all leaves and unnecessary stems from the flowers. Dethorn roses if you are using them.

    • 5

Cut the stems at an angle so that they are all the same length. Some flowers have weak stems. Reinforce these stems by taping a length of floral wire to the stem with floral tape.

    • 6

Choose two to four flowers to act as a base around which you will build. Bunch the stems together and wrap with floral tape starting 1 to 1 1/2 inches down from the flower, with 4 to 5 inches of stem exposed at the bottom.

    • 7

Build your bouquet by adding flowers around the base. Position flowers and foliage in an aesthetically pleasing way. As you add more flowers, continue taping the stems together to create a stable and cohesive bouquet.

    • 8

Finish adding flowers and foliage, then wrap all the stems together with floral tape, again starting 1 to 1 1/2 inches from the flower and leaving 4 to 5 inches of stem exposed at the bottom.

    • 9

Wrap a ribbon around the bouquet so that the floral tape is completely covered. You can tie the ribbon into a bow or cut off the excess and tape the end down.
