How to Turn Night Into Day in After Effects
Using lighting effects and other filters, Adobe After Effects can easily convert day images into night. Doing the opposite requires a little more work and detail, however. It also will not look as natural because of the limited light, but you can add certain effects and filters to make it look as realistic as possible. The night into day conversion works in any "CS" version of Adobe After Effects.

1
Locate any potential light sources in the media. This includes windows, lamps, or the sun if it is outside. Take note of these areas so you can focus on each one.
-
2
Right-click in the "Layers" window and select "New" and "Light." A light will appear on the screen.
-
-
3
Click and move the light to the position you want. For example, if it is the sun, set the light above the composition. If it is from a lamp or street light, set it as close to the bulb as possible.
-
4
Click on the "Effect Controls" tab. Choose the type of light. If it is a large light like the sun, select the "Parallel" setting. If it is from a bulb source, select the "Spot" light.
-
5
Set the intensity of the light. Increase it to make the image look more like daylight. On darker images, the image may look out of focus or blurred. This will be adjusted later.
-
6
Change the "Falloff" of the light to give it a natural look. This setting fades out the light to make it look natural.
-
7
Type in "Glow" in the "Effects and Presets" window. Drag and drop the glow effect onto your main layer. Increase the glow of the layer to add more natural ambient light. This will make the daylight reflections look more natural.
-
8
Type in "Contrast" in the "Effects and Presets" window. Drag and drop the "Brightness and Contrast" effect onto your main layer. Adjust the contrast up to make some of the fuzziness disappear and the objects stand out more. Increase the brightness to remove any extra darkness.
-
9
Render the video to see how the light looks as you play it. Take notes of any extra dark spots and add extra lights as needed.
