How to Fix a Broken Buckle on a Hunter Rain Boot

Explore America's Campgrounds

Hunter Boots are the makers of traditional rubber rain boots. Today, the company produces a range of boots, from stylish around-town models to the original field use boots. The boots are made from flexible rubber and some have a felt liner. A single strap and buckle go across the calf of the boot, allowing you to tighten it down during extremely wet and rainy days. If the buckle or strap is compromised, use a few repair methods to get the boots back up to par.

Items you will need

  • Clear super adhesive

  • Cotton swab

  • Replacement buckle (optional)

Step 1

Wash and wipe down the boots. Inspect the buckle and strap, looking at the rubber strap first. Check for rips or tears on the buckle strap.

Step 2

Push any rip or tear together. Apply a coat of clear super adhesive to the torn or damaged part of the buckle strap. If it is very hard to reach, dip the tip of a cotton swab in the adhesive and swab the damaged area with the adhesive soaked cotton tip. Hold the tear together for five minutes, allowing the adhesive to set.

Step 3

Pull the buckle off the strap and inspect it for bends or ripped areas. If the buckle is bent, grip it with two pairs of vise grips and gently bend it back into original shape. Go slow so you do not stress the metal. Once back in shape, slide it back onto the strap.

Step 4

Replace the buckle if it is broken in pieces or if the metal edges have broken, making it unsuitable for repair or use. Replacement buckles are found at Hunter Boot dealers or through Hunter Boots customer service.
