How to Make Inexpensive Sunflower Themed Wedding Favors
Sunflowers are beautiful for a summer or fall wedding. If you're on a budget and want to stick to your sunflower theme for your wedding favors, try making them yourself. Sunflower seeds are quite inexpensive and can be dressed up to look elegant and expensive. Create seed packets using decorative scrapbook paper and fill them with chocolate covered sunflower seeds, or any flavor you prefer. You can choose paper to match your wedding colors.
Things You'll Need
- Decorative scrapbook paper (12 square inches, each sheet makes four favors)
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Craft glue
- Sunflower seeds (plain, chocolate coated or flavored)
- Hole punch
- White card stock
- Permanent marker or printer
- Ribbon (5 inch pieces)
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure and cut out 4 inch by 8 inch strips of the decorative paper. You should be able to get four out of one piece, with paper left over.
-
2
Lay one strip of paper pattern side down and fold the long edges in 1/4 inch. Score the edges with a butter knife or paper score for crisp edges.
-
-
3
Fold one of the short ends in 1/2 inch. This will be the top of your sunflower seed packet.
-
4
Fold the paper in half so the bottom meets the crease that you created.
-
5
Unfold the paper and cut 1/4 inch slits from the edges, where the paper was folded in half.
-
6
Cut off the two corners at the top of the paper to create a nice triangle flap.
-
7
Fold the flaps inward on the bottom half of the packet and fold it in half again.
-
8
Apply craft glue to the upper flaps and fold them over the bottom half to secure the envelope. Allow the glue to dry overnight.
-
9
Fill the packets with about 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds.
-
10
Fold the top flap over and secure it with a monogram sticker or sunflower sticker.
-
11
Personalize the sunflower favors by attaching name tags. Simply print your guest's name on a 2-1/2 inch by 1-1/2 inch piece of paper, punch a hole in the top left corner, string a 5 inch piece of ribbon through and tie it in a knot. Punch a hole in the top right corner of your packet and string the ribbon through. Tie the ends in a bow.

Tips & Warnings
Avoid using chocolate if your wedding is going to be outside and in the summer, as it can melt and ruin your favors.
