DIY Black Light Face Paint
Black lights are commonly used in dance clubs to cause white clothing to emit an eerie glow. For a Halloween party or outdoor display, you can set up black lights to illuminate ghost and tombstone decorations, as well as light-colored costumes. Take your costume to the next level with ultraviolet face paint, which is available at large costume and theater supply outlets. If you have ever worked with traditional face paint, you can use the same techniques to apply black light face paint.
Things You'll Need
- Ultraviolet face paint
- Plastic bowls
- Makeup sponge
- Makeup brush
- Ultraviolet face painting crayons
- Ultraviolet lipstick
- Ultraviolet mascara
Instructions
-
-
1
Wash your face with soap and water, and pull your hair back to facilitate face paint application.
-
2
Squeeze face paint into a plastic bowl. Dip a makeup sponge in water and use it to block in large areas of paint on your face. Apply as many layers of paint as you wish -- thicker paint will glow more brightly under a black light.

3
Apply smaller painted details with a makeup brush or black light face-painting crayons. Use sharpened crayons to apply henna-like dots.
-

Tips & Warnings
Check the face paint’s label to determine how it will appear under a black light. The actual color of the paint may be different in natural light.
Remove the face paint with soap and water, and use shampoo to remove ultraviolet mascara from hair.
You can use ultraviolet face paint on the rest of your skin as well as your face.
Blend different face paints together to make a variety of colors.
Only use ultraviolet face paints labeled for use on skin. Regular ultraviolet paint and ink is not FDA approved to wear on skin.
