How to Layer a Black Dress With Sleeves
The "little black dress" is a fashion classic. Every woman should own at least one, and since they are available in a wide range of styles, fabrics and shapes, there's a perfect black dress out there for everyone. Although a black dress is classic, it can look boring without any accessories. By layering with interesting pieces, you can create many different looks based on one black dress.

1
Utilize flattering foundation garments. Although a black dress is forgiving, a properly fitting bra and seamless, comfortable panties will prevent bulging and keep your silhouette smooth. Shapewear can also help you look and feel your best by smoothing your hips and midsection.

2
Add a blouse underneath the dress. A turtleneck looks great under a dress with a square neckline, and a bohemian puffy-sleeved shirt adds interest to a T-shirt style dress. If the blouse adds too much bulk, layer a snug-fitting camisole in between the dress and shirt to keep the layers flat.

Experiment with tights and socks. A black dress with opaque black tights and bright heels is fun but appropriate for the office, and bright tights with coordinating accessories make a perfect girls'-night-out statement. Use patterned tights in argyle or polka dot to create a playful look.

Top the dress with a sweater, cardigan or jacket. A long sweater looks great at the office, or use a women's-cut leather motorcycle jacket to give your weekend look some edge. Use a belt to define your waistline to keep bulkier sweaters figure-flattering.
