How to Make Mini Dream Catchers With Two Inch Rings

Make your own miniature dream catcher to filter your dreams.

Dream catchers are a part of Native American culture. Traditionally crafted from willow wreaths, the spiderweb of knotted twine is said to catch all the bad dreams, only allowing the good ones to filter through. Make a mini dream catcher with a small 2-inch ring. This will take patience and attention as it's very difficult to do the webbing in such a small ring. Use a needle to help you craft this tiny dream catcher.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Thread the needle with a 50-inch length of embroidery twine and tie it to the ring.

    • 2

Use the needle to feed the thread through the ring. About 1/2 inch from the first knot, make a second knot. Continue to make knots all the way around the ring, using the needle to help as the space is too small for your fingers. Make the gap between the last and the first knot slightly smaller.

    • 3

Pass the needle from the top of the dream catcher through to the bottom through the loop created between the first and second knots. Bring the needle back through the center of the ring and then tie a knot in the center of the loop. This knot will be tied to the thread between the first and second knots on the ring.

    • 4

Continue to tie knots in the middle of the thread loops as you go around the dream catcher. This will form the webbing. You can go around as many times as you want. The larger the hole in the middle of the dream catcher, the more dreams are said to be able to pass through.

    • 5

Tie off the thread in the middle of the ring when you are no longer able to make more knots. Cut the string close to the knot.

    • 6

Cut three lengths of thread that are 7 inches long. Tie them to the ring at the bottom of the dream catcher. Spread them out so that each one is tied next to a knot on the ring.

    • 7

Thread beads onto the lengths of embroidery thread and tie feathers at the end to finish off your dream catcher.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can glue beads onto the webbing if your like. The webbing may be too fine for you to thread beads on while you are making the dream catcher.

  • Make a loop at the top of the dream catcher so that you can hang it up. Use ribbon, suede string or embroidery thread to do to.

  • Use dream catchers in jewelry, for key rings, to hang on baby's crib or over your own bed. The mini dream catchers can also be used to embellish clothing or bags.
