How to Make a Cascading Bridal Bouquet Using Silks

The ends of cascading bouquets shower toward the floor.

Cascading bridal bouquets have been considered to be the most formal bouquet style since their creation in the Edwardian era. At that time, the arrangements were sometimes so large that they trailed on the floor. Today, however, cascading bouquets rarely extend beyond the bride's knees. Though the bouquet style's structure is more complex than a round style, it can be created at home. If you are planning to make the bouquet more than a day in advance, it is wise to use silk flowers so that they do not wilt.

Things You'll Need

  • 40 silk flowers
  • Scissors
  • Foam floral bouquet holder
  • 22-gauge wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Floral tape
  • Ribbon
  • Corsage pins
  • Hot glue gun

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the flowers' stems to 1 1/2 inches. Trim 12 of the stems at an angle and push their ends into the floral foam bouquet holder. Adjust the flowers so that all the blossoms face outward, as this will make the bouquet's concentration of flowers appear fuller.

    • 2

Cut the wire into 26 strands of 4 inches and 26 strands of 2 inches. Push the strands measuring 2 inches up through the stems of the flowers until they meet the flowers' bases. Push the 4-inch wire strands perpendicularly through the bases and fold the ends down to lie parallel to the first wire.

    • 3

Wrap the stems and wires with floral tape, leaving half an inch of wire exposed. This will add stability to the flowers and help to hold the wires in securely.

    • 4

Lay out your flowers into three columns with the wires pointing away from you. The outer two columns should have eight flowers in each while the inner column should have 10.

    • 5

Wire the bottom flowers to the bases of the blooms above them. Do this by slipping the bottom flowers' wires through the small loop created by the wire pushed perpendicularly through the bases of the upper flowers. Wrap the wire of the lower flower around this loop and pinch it in place to secure it. Continue working your way up to the top of the columns.

    • 6

Wrap the wires of each of the three top flowers to the plastic cage around the floral bouquet holder. Adjust the blooms until they obscure the bouquet holder from sight.

    • 7

Wrap a ribbon around the top edge of the bouquet holder. Secure it in place with a corsage pin and continue wrapping the holder in ribbon until it is completely hidden. This prevents the white plastic from detracting from your bouquet's overall look. Trim away the excess ribbon and secure the end with a dab of hot glue.
