How to Sponge Paint Trees

Whether it is for Arbor Day or for the first day of autumn, creating a tree by sponging paint is safe for a child to do. The paints used are water-washable and the project allows children to get their hands dirty while getting involved with all of the steps.

  • Brown construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • White construction paper
  • Colored pencils
  • Three pieces of painting sponge
  • Washable green, red and yellow paints

Instructions

      Trace your arm, wrist and a little piece of your hand onto the piece of brown construction paper.

      Cut out the design with the scissors.

      Wipe glue onto the back of the design.

    • 4

      Glue the design onto the white construction paper so that the arm area is at the bottom of the paper. Allow the design to dry for five minutes.

      Pour the paint into three cups.

      Dab the sponge into one of the paint cups. Push the painted end of the sponge onto one of the traced out fingertips on the construction paper. Perform this step a in a few more random places around the other fingertips.

      Repeat Step 6 with the different paints.
