How to Make Wedding Ceremony Cones thumbnail
Use paper cones to hold and distribute petals to wedding guests.

Paper cones are an understated but striking way to distribute flower petals or confetti at a wedding ceremony. The degree of formality you achieve with the cones depends on the paper you use. You can tailor print, design and composition of the paper to match the design scheme of the ceremony and serve as an integral component in realizing the aesthetic you hope to achieve. You can assemble the cones yourself prior to the wedding with a few basic supplies.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Hold an 8-inch square of paper. Bring two diagonal corners of the page together to form a tube shape with the paper.

    • 2

Overlap the corners. Cup your palm slightly to guide the paper into the proper rounded shape.

    • 3

Move the overlapped corners at slight angles as you continue shaping the paper into a rounded form. Make one of the remaining corners the bottom point of the shape, turning the tube into a cone.

    • 4

Pinch the overlapped paper at the broad, open end of the cone with your fingers to hold the paper in place. Tighten the paper's arrangement to make a sturdy cone that ends in a sharp, closed point.

    • 5

Pinch the overlapped paper at the open end to secure the cone. Turn the cone so the edge of the paper on the exterior of the cone faces down.

    • 6

Hold the cone close to a work surface. Use a finger to separate the exterior edge of the paper from the cone. Hold the rest of the cone in its shape. Make a 1/2-inch gap between the cone and separated edge of the paper.

    • 7

Hold the separated edge of paper against your work surface. Run the glue stick down the edge of the paper.

    • 8

Press the edge against the cone. Run your fingers along the edge on the exterior of the cone and under it on the interior of the cone.

    • 9

Slide a large paper clip over the overlapped paper at the open end of the cone to hold the paper in place as the glue sets.

    • 10

Remove the paper clip after the glue has dried for 30 minutes.

    • 11

Repeat the process to make as many cones as needed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use paper that is thicker than standard printer or typing paper. The material should be thick and rigid enough to form a sturdy cone. However, it should also be flexible enough that you can roll it into the proper shape without it making corners or peaks. You may have trouble finding 8-inch square paper. If so, buy 8-inch by 10-inch paper and cut the excess length from the paper.
