How to Make a Shelf With Simpson Strong Ties
When your house or apartment lacks storage areas, one ideal way to create additional storage is to install shelves on the walls. Shelves do not take away any floor space and are useful for storing books, clothes and boxes. Simpson Strong-Tie is a manufacturer of structural products such as screws and shelf brackets. Things You'll Need
- Stud finder
- Pencil
- Two Simpson Strong-Tie brackets
- Anchors
- Screws
- Shelf

Locate the studs in your wall using a stud finder and mark them with a pencil. Before you can install the shelf you must find the perfect location in your wall. Studs are the boards behind your drywall, and they will act as an anchor for your shelf.

Hold your Strong-Tie bracket up to the stud and use a pencil to mark the location and spacing for your wall screws. Repeat this process to mark the location for the second bracket’s screws.

Use your drill to predrill a hole in the wall at the previously marked locations. Install your anchors into the predrilled holes for added support.

Place your Simpson Strong-Tie bracket against the wall so the holes are lined up with the brackets. Use your drill to install the screws to hold the bracket in place. Repeat this step to attach the other bracket to the wall.

Place your shelf on top of the brackets and the shelf is ready to use.
