How to Attach a Ruffled Ribbon to a Pillow

Designer pillows are easy to recreate at home.

It's easy to duplicate the high-priced embellished pillows you find at chic home decor stores. You can customize plain pillows by adding trim, like ruffled ribbons. This is a simple project that will transform your pillows from basic to breathtaking in a few, easy steps. Different color combinations, textures of ribbon and placement on the pillow create an endless number of combinations that can spice up any interior or make inexpensive housewarming gifts.

Things You'll Need

• Ruffled ribbon
• Pillow
• Needle and thread
• Glue gun
• Straight or safety pins

Instructions

1. 

   Ribbons are an inexpensive embellishment.

   Place your ribbons on your pillow. Move them around and experiment with a few different positions of the ribbon on the pillow by pinning them into place and comparing the placements.

2. 

   Anchor your ribbon with a needle and thread

   Pin the ribbons into place on your pillow once you've decided the best position for the ribbons. Using a straight pin or safety pins, pin the ribbon to the pillow through the back of the ribbon.

3. 

   Sewing the ribbon on is the most stable method.

   Attach the ribbon to your pillow, using a dab of glue from a glue gun or sewing through the back of the ribbon with needle and thread. Make sure the glue or thread is not visible from the front of the pillow for a polished look.

Tips & Warnings

• A glue gun offers the fastest way to attach your ribbons to your pillow, but sewing with a needle and thread is the most stable.

• Make sure to pre-wash both your ribbon and your pillow so the colors don't bleed when washed together.
