How to Do Crochet-Style Headbands
Headbands are a great way to add an extra dash of style to any outfit. Crochet headbands are not very common and people are much more used to making decorations, hats, sweaters and scarves in crochet form. But a crochet headband, done correctly with a little adornment such as a flower, can make a beautiful and delicate complement to any casual-wear pairings.
Instructions
-
Start with a Chain
-
1
Start with a loop on your hook and make a chain. If you want a larger flower, you should make a chain of at least 30 stitches. 15 to 20 stitches chain will do for a smaller size flower.
-
2
Insert the hook into the second loop of the chain and make a single crochet. Insert the hook into the loop, wrap the yarn over it and pull it through.
-
-
3
Wrap the yarn and pull it through both loops. You crochet the entire first row of your flower in this way.
-
4
Insert the hook into the second stitch of the first row and make a single crochet. Leave this loop on your hook,
-
5
Wrap the yarn and insert the hook into the same chain stitch. Wrap the yarn and pull it through two loops. Now, you’ve got two loops on your hook.
-
6
Wrap the yarn and pull it through both of them. Basically, you make a double crochet.
-
7
Make two more of these double crochets in the same chain stitch. Every time you finish a double crochet, you have only one loop remaining on your hook.
-
8
Insert the hook into the same chain stitch, wrap the yarn and make a single crochet. Your first flower petal is ready.
-
9
Insert the hook into the next chain stitch and make one more single crochet. Make 3 more double crochets in the same chain stitch and finish up with a single crochet. Start every new petal with a single crochet.
-
10
Add 3 more double crochets and end up with 1 single crochet. You will crochet your entire chain this way. Once you’ve got a string of one color petals ready, you can take a different color of yarn and finish up your flower.
-
11
Turn your petal chain around and add one more row of double crochets to it.
-
12
Insert the hook into every chain stitch of your flower petals and make a double crochet in it.
-
13
Cover all the petals with a double crochet row of different yarn color.
-
14
Roll your petal chain into a flower and fasten it with few stitches together.
-
15
Make three double crochet chains with their size matching your or your child’s head size.
-
16
Fasten them together in one place and attach your flower decoration to them. If you like, you can add a few more crochet flowers.

Tips & Warnings
It’s best not to select flurry or boucle yarn, as it would make flower crocheting hard and your stitch pattern indistinct.
