1
Choose a color scheme or theme for your backyard BBQ reception by selecting a few solid colors or a pattern of your choice. For a summer barbecue gathering, bright blues, turquoises, yellows and oranges can highlight the celebration of the heat and summer months. If you are having an end of the summer barbecue reception, choose dark reds, yellows, oranges and browns to help bring in the fall season while still having the ability to dine comfortable outdoors.

Purchase outdoor plastic tablecloths to decorate and cover each of the tables you have set up for guests to eat on. Use a solid color tablecloth on each table and alternate the colors to add variations of decorations throughout your yard.

Create centerpieces for each one of your backyard tables using Mason jars with fake (or real) sunflowers, daisies and other summer flowers. Fill the jars halfway with sand and craft marbles to hold the flowers in place if you are using fake material.

Hang string lighting along the fence in your backyard using outdoor outlets and set votive candles on each table for when the evening and nighttime arrives. Add Tiki torches around your fence to add additional decorative lighting while helping to keep bugs and mosquitoes away (depending on the type of torches you purchase).
