How to Make a Small Balloon Wedding Centerpiece

How to Make a Small Balloon Wedding Centerpiece thumbnail
Balloons are a classic decor choice for weddings.

When deciding what to create for centerpieces for a wedding reception, consider making the centerpieces out of balloons. Balloons are an inexpensive alternative to the traditional flowers or candles. Additionally, balloons come in a rainbow of colors and sizes to accommodate any design or style of centerpiece the couple wants to create. Since the balloons will sit in the center of the table, the design should be small, yet elegant. Create a small, round balloon centerpiece that will dazzle guests, yet still allow them to see one another over the table.

Instructions

    • 1

Count the number of tables that will need centerpieces. Typically, each table will have a centerpiece in the center of the table. To determine how many tables you will need to make centerpieces for, divide the number of guests attending the reception by the number of people the individual tables hold. For instance, if 200 people will be at the reception and each table holds 10 people, then you will need 20 centerpieces.

    • 2

Visit a craft supply store to purchase a small craft box as the base of the balloon centerpiece. The craft box will need to be open at the top and be 3 inches tall by 3 inches wide by 3 inches deep. The exterior sides of the boxes will display pictures of the couple.

    • 3

Cut four pictures of the couple to fit the sides of the box. Glue the pictures to the sides of the box using craft glue. The sand bag will slide into the box when complete so the box looks like the base.

    • 4

Measure and cut four 6-inch pieces of ribbon and one 4-inch piece of ribbon. The 6-inch ribbons will tie the balloons together, and the 4-inch ribbon will hold the arrangement to the table.

    • 5

Blow up one medium-sized balloon and four small balloons with helium. Tie the bottom stubs to prevent the helium escaping.

    • 6

Fill a small, resealable bag with 1/2 cup of white sand. Punch a hole in an upper corner of the bag. Tie one end of the 4-inch string through the hole in the bag and the other end to the bottom of the medium-sized balloon. The bag of sand will sit inside the photo box to hold the arrangement to the table.

    • 7

Tie the first small balloon to the arrangement by tying a 6-inch piece of ribbon to the end of one small balloon. Tie the other end of the 6-inch ribbon to the string used to hold the medium-sized balloon to the sand bag. Repeat the process with the other three small balloons and three remaining 6-inch ribbons.

    • 8

Set the balloon arrangement on a table and arrange the balloons so the medium-sized balloon is in the center of the four small balloons.

    • 9

Repeat the process for each table that requires a centerpiece.

Tips & Warnings

  • Alternate balloon colors to reflect the colors of the wedding.

  • Blow up balloons the day before the wedding to prevent deflating.

  • The box size can be adjusted according to availability and personal preference.

  • Avoid filling the balloons with too much helium. This may cause the balloons to pop.
