DIY Missoni Crochet
"Target's website crashed several times throughout the day," when the retailer launched its new limited edition line of home decor and wearable products from Italian designer Missoni, according to Minnesota's KSTP News website. You don't have to wait in line at your local store or refresh your screen endlessly; if you have basic crocheting skills, you can make your own Missoni style zigzag afghan in the colors of your choosing.
Things You'll Need
- Worsted weight yarn in three colors
- Crochet hook size U.S. H
- Scissors

1
Use your first color of yarn, color A, and make 180 chain stitches with your size H crochet hook.
-
2
Make a single crochet in the second and third chains from the hook. Skip the next chain, and then single crochet in each of the next 11 chains. Make three single crochets in the following chain, and then single crochet in each of the next 11 chains. Repeat the pattern across the rest of the row: skip two chains, single crochet in each of the next 11 chains, make three single crochets in the following chain, and make a single crochet in each of the next 11 chains. When you reach the final three chains, skip one chain and single crochet in each of the last two chains. Turn your work.

Begin row two. Make one chain, and then single crochet in the first two stitches. Skip one stitch, and then make a single crochet in each of the next 11 stitches. Make three single crochets in the next stitch, and then single crochet in the following 11 stitches. Repeat the following pattern across the row: skip two stitches, single crochet in each of the next 11 stitches, make three single crochets in the following stitch, and single crochet in the next 11 stitches. When you come to the last three stitches, skip one and then make a single crochet in each of the last two stitches. Turn your work.

4
Repeat row two three more times so you have five total rows using yarn color A.
-
5
Let go of the strand of yarn A, but do not cut it. Join yarn color B in the first stitch of the next row; carry yarn A up the side of the work until you next need it.
-
6
Repeat row two with yarn color B, making five total repeats of this row.
-
7
Drop yarn color B, continuing to carry it up the side of the work as well until you next need it. Fasten yarn color C with a slipstitch and repeat row two five times total with yarn C.
-
8
Continue to repeat row two five times with each strand of yarn in this order: Yarn color A, B and C. Carry the unused strands up the side of the work until you need them again. Continue until your blanket reaches its desired size or you run out of yarn.
-
9
Cut the last strand of yarn with scissors, leaving a 5-inch tail. Thread this tail into an embroidery needle and weave it in and out of the stitches on the backside of the blanket. Repeat this with any remaining yarn tails.

Tips & Warnings
To make a chain stitch, bring the yarn up and over the hook from back to front (yarn over). Catch the yarn in the hook and draw it through the loop on your hook.
To make a single crochet stitch, insert your hook into the top of the blanket stitch. Yarn over and pull through a loop, and then yarn over and draw through both loops on the hook.
To make a slipstitch, insert your hook into the stitch indicated. Yarn over and draw through the stitch and the loop on your hook simultaneously.
To carry the yarn up the side, keep it loose but close to the edge. When you work the first stitch of a row on that side, lay the carried yarn under the stitch and catch it in the stitch as you work to secure it to the side of the blanket and stabilize it as you work.
To make a true Missoni style blanket, choose bold colors such as black with purple and orange.
