How to Decoupage a Tin
It is wasteful to throw tins away, once their contents have been used, and you never know when they might come in handy for storing something else. By using decoupage, you can turn simple tins into works of art that make great storage solutions and coordinate with your decor. If you use gift wrap for the process, you can use the tins to give holiday gifts, such as cookies and candy.

1
Clean the tin thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth, to remove dirt, grease and residue from other labels.
-
2
Rub over the surface of the tin gently with fine sandpaper, to provide a key for the glue. Wipe any dust off with a sponge and warm water, and allow the tin to dry thoroughly.

3
Cut out paper images from magazines, old books, maps and gift wrap to use for decoration. Use thin paper images, since these will adhere best. Choose a theme that the recipient of the tin will enjoy such as cars, fashion, animals or travel.
-
4
Brush decoupage glue onto small areas of the tin at a time with a sponge craft brush. Place your images onto the glued surface. Smooth the images as you go; this will remove air bubbles, before the glue sets. Overlap the pictures so that none of the original tin is showing.

5
Apply a coat of acrylic varnish over the decoupage, once the glue has dried completely. This will protect the decoupage from scratches and scuffs.
