How to Make a Girly Accent Pillow

Ruffled pillows make a bed more feminine.

Frothy white eyelet ruffles and satin bows with long streamers make a sundress sweet and girly. Adding eyelet ruffles and satin bows to a throw pillow will also make it fresh and girly. Use ribbon that matches your room. This pillow is girly in any color, not just pink. Purchased ruffled eyelet trim allows you to sew up the pillow using only plain straight seams.

Things You'll Need

• 1/2 yard medium-weight white woven cotton fabric
• Yardstick
• Scissors
• Tailor's chalk
• 1 1/2-inch-wide ruffled eyelet trim, 2 yards
• Straight pins
• Sewing machine
• White thread
• 3/8-inch satin ribbon, 4 1/2 yards
• Matching thread
• Polyester fiberfill
• Needle

Instructions

1. Cut two 14-inch squares of fabric.

2. Use a yardstick to draw a straight line 2 inches below the top of one of the squares. Draw another line 2 1/2 inches below the first line and three more lines each 2 1/2 inches below the line above them.

3. Pin 1 1/2-inch eyelet trim along each of the lines. Sew the trim to the fabric with a straight stitch and a standard stitch length. Sew down the middle of the bands at the tops of the ruffles.

4. Pin 3/4-inch satin ribbon over the bands at the tops of the ruffles. Stitch 1/16 inch from each side of the ribbons.

5. Lay the second square of fabric over the ruffled square. Sew the squares together by stitching 1/2 inch from the edges of the squares. Leave a 4-inch opening in one side for turning.

6. Clip the corners of the seam allowance at a 45-degree angle. The seam allowance is the fabric that extends beyond the seam. Cut close to the seam without cutting the seam. Turn the pillow right side out. Stuff it firmly and sew the opening closed.

7. Make five ribbon bows with 1-inch loops and 5-inch streamers. Sew the bow to the top ribbon 2 inches from the right side. Hand sew the next bow to the second row of ribbon 4 1/4 inches from the right side. Sew the remaining ribbons on to each of the lower ribbons moving 2 1/4 inches to the left for each successive bow.
